hpqgpc01.exe – Application Error Message When Shutting Down Computer

Error Message:

“hpqgpc01.exe – Application Error -The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000005) occurred in the application at location 0x75c5be16. Click on OK to terminate the program” shows up when shutting down or restarting your HP desktop or laptop computer.

Cause:

Your have a 64 bit operating system however you are running a 32 bit file system. That is why when this particular file calls for a 32bit function then it generates the error.

Solution 1:

A recent patch from HP has been released recently. I recommend that you try it first before going to the next solution.

Solution 2:

There really has not been a fixed solution yet to this problem. However, a Tom at HP forums has had great success with his solution below.

Load your printer disc in your CD drive, then go to : START, CONTROL PANEL, PRINTER. Then right click on printer and go to properties. Go to SHARING. Click on CHANGE SHARING OPTIONS. Click CONTINUE. Go down to DRIVERS and click on ADDITIONAL DRIVERS. X64 is the 64 bit driver, but remember that you probably have the files loaded in your X86 file which is 32 bit . Leave the X64 file alone, but click the X86 file. Then close out the program. When you go back, the file should show both the X64 & X86 file as Type 3 User Mode INSTALLED-YES. Restart your computer.

    HI,

I have a new Dell 17″ computer and I have the error code from the printer that everyone has mentioned. I went through all the steps and at the end I can not just say YES and restart it comes up with an /E and Browse as to where I want to save the file. Do you know where to put the files at the end. There were so many of them when I opend up the browse button. Thank you. Janice

Don’t worry about it, so long as you have your printer’s disk in, then just press ok. Then Restart :)
