'Device Unknown' in device manager. Powered off PC and left it UNPLUGGED for 5 minutes. Son of a gun - IT WORKED. Must force some sort of a reload on the mother board - I dunno.

This port is on the front and it is a USB 2.0. The software immediately said "GOOD" to the connection when I plugged the USB cable to the computer as prompted. On the old connection it would always "say" that the USB connection was "good" after about 5 minutes of lights going back and forth on the cable animation but the software always ended up with a "failed to install" message.

When I installed the HP driver CD, it started the install directly from the disk. Didn't work. Then I started from "Install a Printer" in Windows. After I clicked on that, the installation proceeded as before, but this time it worked. Just like Microsoft, always wanting to be in charge!
