The NVIDIA settlement for tx1000 computers is bogus.
They want to replace them with with a netbook or compaq piece of junk that's nothing close to the same specs. But you don't like this you had to exclude yourself before you knew what the options were going to be... now way... this is not justice. And this does not explain all of the other problems with the tx1000 series. The WiFi board problem is very widespread as are the overheating and other problems. I had problems with mine right away, my touch screen never worked, and even after sending it in for repairs of the WiFi problem HP didn't fix the screen problem!!
when I got it back it was missing a plate off of the back and my HD was wiped out even though nothing was wrong with it when I sent it in. Now my tx1000 died and was supposed to have a 4 year warranty. HP is claiming that it is out of warranty. These are crooks and they need to be held accountable. RAISE YOUR VOICE!!

Please spread the words.
-----------------------

FW: www.NVIDIASettlement.com

If you purchased certain models of notebook computers containing an NVIDIA graphics processing unit or media and communications processor, you could be entitled to benefits under a class action settlement.
This is a summary of the Full Notice. Click here www.NVIDIASettlement.com to visit the settlement website to obtain the Full Notice. Do not reply to this email. Replies will not be read.
The United States District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division, authorized this Notice.
This is not a solicitation from a lawyer.
A settlement of a class action lawsuit (The NVIDIA GPU Litigation, Case No. 08-cv-04312-JW) relates to the NVIDIA chips inside certain Dell, Hewlett-Packard (“HP”), and Apple notebook computers. The lawsuit claims that NVIDIA sold defective Graphics Processing Units (“GPU”) and Media and Communications Processors (“MCP”) that affected the performance of some of the notebook computers in which they were incorporated. NVIDIA denies all allegations of wrongdoing and has asserted many defenses. The settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing.
Who is Affected by this Class Action?
All United States residents who purchased in the United States a version of one of the Dell, HP or Apple notebook computer models listed in the Table of Class Computers containing an NVIDIA MCP or GPU. These individuals are referred to as “Class Members” in this Notice.
What Can You Get From the Proposed Settlement?
Class Members who file an approved claim will be entitled to:
1. Replacement of the NVIDIA graphics processing unit or media and communications processor, which are referred to in this Notice as the “chips” if you purchased a version of certain models of notebook computers manufactured by Dell, Inc. or Apple Inc. containing one of the NVIDIA chips; or
2. A Replacement notebook computer similar in kind and value if you purchased a version of certain models of notebook computers manufactured by HP containing one of the NVIDIA chips; or
3. Reimbursement of amounts paid for repairs related to problems with the NVIDIA chips. NVIDIA will fund $2 million from which reimbursements will be made. The amount paid may depend on the number of reimbursement claims received.

HP Pavilion tx1000 has been giving me overheating issues. I have had the laptop repaired by the Geek Squad at Best Buy twice within my 2 year warranty and now my warranty recently expired and the laptop wont boot most of the time and the wireless adapter is not even being recognized. The Nvidia chip inside the laptop has a defect and is frying the computer. Please recall this product. So many customers are having this issue and the laptop cost me 1000 dollars with a 200 dollar 2 year warranty. Please listen to our petition and help us out.

SIGN THE PETITION if you feel the HP Pavilion TX1000 should be recalled due to the defect of the Nvidia chip overheating and causing the wireless card to stop functioning as well as the screen to not boot.

I am so glad that many DV6000 series Pavilion laptops were repaired by HP. However, the TX1000 series of laptops uses the same defective motherboard and has the same problems as the Dv6000 series and no recall or repair program was instituted by HP. The motherboard HP part number is 441097-001, the same as used by the Dv6000 series. I ordered a motherboard to repair a HP Pavilion tx1327cl. When I placed the order I was required by HP to provide the unit’s serial number and product number. The replacement part costs over $400.00! I installed the replacement motherboard and discovered that it was not correctly configured for a tx1327cl but rather a tx1250eg. The BIOS needed to be tattooed, that is a special HP utilility called HPsetCfg is need to change the BIOS serial and product numbers. Why is this important? If you try to restore the system from a HP System Restore DVD, the system will be setup as a tx1250eg. If you try to restore the system from the user made restore disks, an error message occurs, “Disks not for this machine”. I spent many hours on the phone with HP support explaining this problem and I was directed to a case manager. The case manager explained that I should have sent the notebook to HP for repair and there was nothing that could be done to resolve the problem. I came up with my own solution: I contested the parts purchase with my credit card company and requested a full refund since the part HP provided did not correct the problem as it was the wrong part for a tx1327cl. HP is not short for Hewlett Packard, it REALLY means Hopeless Products. Our IT group will never purchase HP products nor recommend them to any of our clients. HP you are the new Packard Bell and very soon we will be reading about you going bankrupt! Thanks for nothing HP

I had the same issues with my tx-1120US. After much investigation, I discovered that one our our local TV stations aired a news program on this issue and that the lady who instigated the initial investigation, got a free laptop from HP (an upgraded 2010 model of the same touch tablet now with a better processor (not the hot running AMD that fries the wireless card attached to the board). I mentioned this to the CEO of HP who than had my out of warranty laptop sent in free (as a kind gesture from HP). I sent it out on Tuesday and had it back in my hands Friday morning! They will do something if enough people threaten (in a kind manner). We will see how long the fix lasts, as it is still hot enough to fry a meal on the bottom side when its plugged in. I find if you unplug it, it runs very nicely. It seems that because the wireless chip is part of the board that is being fried when turned on, it's probably affecting everything, because the glue comes loose with the heat and the video chip disattaches along with everything else. Go figure...

Bought the tx1000 3years ago, has been a problem ever since the 1st year. The WWAN doesn't work (had to buy a USB WLAN) to get connection. Then the boot system is a mess. Have to try rebooting 10-15 times before the display comes on. Now, the system has crashed totally, the motherboard is shot I guess. Tried HP since the first incident, they get asking for other things to be done before they admit bad WWAN hardware or connection. This should be total recall on the motherboard and accompanying parts.

I have the same problem as you all. My TX 1320us have no wireless and screen does not work neither. Support services say this is a recurrent problem in these HP models and I don't know if HP issued a recall for it so far. it is too expensive to continue this way. I live in Brazil and have little access to their customer support service.

while this DOES fix the problem, the choice becomes to sell the thing and spread the word or use it until dead.

Well, a friend of mine brought me a TX 1320UA table cause it would not boot. I took out the hard drive and replaced it with a hard drive from another broken pc (a Compaq (HP) Pavillion V6000 running Windows XP) the Wifi, according to my friend was not working as well just before it died. Well quess what. The Wifi worked just fine on a Windows XP environment.
I bought a new Hard Drive, and Downloaded Vista Ultimate OEM. Installed, and the machine Booted, but no wifi. The Tablet Function worked just fine (Did not work on XP), but no WiFi... I had Bluetooth functionality but no WiFi. I proceeded to download all the drivers from HP website, but the LAN driver fails to install, And there is another 2 drivers that fail to install, including a Fingerprint reading function, which I cannot find a Finger Reading Port anywhere, but it is on the Device Manager(No Driver) plus there is and AICP unknown device, which I am not sure but think its the WiFi card... Oh and the web cam is not working and there is no drivers for it either... I swear... All this problems are related to Windows Crappy Vista!! asides from poor Quality Assurance from HP.
XBOX 360 were and I think that they still are Riddle with overheating problems leading to Cold Solders on the the sockets of the Graphics and CPU Processors to come undone, crashing the systems.. Read and Head.. this is the Future Cold Solders....
I will definitively tell my friend to Deep 6 that tablet crappola!!!!

HP really suck!!!!I’ve been “advertising” HP to the limit and….hp will pc business wil die! I loose 1200 but HP will loose more in the business.
