HP CUE Scanning Flow Component has encountered a problem

There is a known bug on HP Solution Center. In this post I will possible solution on this particular issue. ERROR MESSAGE:

HP CUE Scanning Flow Component has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

CAUSE: Bad registry enrty – caused by some third party application such as registry cleaners or anti-virus. For some reason the registry below is created which then cause the scanning application to HPQSCNVW.exe to stop working.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging Key = ProfileWritePath Value = %APPDATA%\HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination

SOLUTION: First, you must recreate the original HP registry entry if it is missing. Go to your Registry Editor by clicking on Run and typing Regedit. In the registry go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging

- You must edit or if it is missing you must create a new key (String Value) and name it ProfileWritePath. – set the value of this new key to:

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination

By doing this each user that logs in to their personal account will now have a valid registry entry and will now cause the registry cleaner to see that the HP registry entry is pointing to a valid path, and will not remove the HP registry entry.

I have tried numerous so called solutions even from HP Tech support, nothing worked. I spent hours and hours trying to find a solution until I came to your website.
I was a little reluctant to go into the registry and do what this site suggested as fiddling around in the registry can be fatal. However I gave it a shot and guess what it worked. I was so happy. Thank you so much.

    Hi Nikolai,

I purchased HP Photosmart C4585 during May 2009. I had `HP CUE Scanning Flow Compononet not working` error (with Windows Vista). I was unhappy for having purchased this printer.

I spent many hours on internet to find out a resolution and trying all the suggestions including suggestions on HP website! Ultimately, today I happened to see your resolution suggestion. IT WORKS !!! Thanks a million for your help.

    Kind Regards,

    Madhukar

        Hi Nikolai,

I’ve just purchased a HP photosmart C4480 and had the ‘HP CUE Scanning Flow Compononet not working` error under XP. After trying several things I came across this fix which corrected the problem, however I ran my registry cleaner again(RegCure 1.5.0.0) and the reg entry was removed again. I was wondering if you knew of a way to prevent it from being removed. Any help would be appreciated.
        Thanks.

        • Nikolai says:

You can customize how RegCure scans your registry by selecting only the items you want to be scanned by using the “Custom Scan” feature.

  13. Robbin Thompson says:

I just purchased the HP 6500 all in one. I have the HP Pavilion Entertainment PC – I added this registry item and it worked one time but then did not work again.

Above it is a (default) one and the one I added is second – I wonder if it is hitting the default on instead of the ProfileWritePath –

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging – I still do not have this anywhere on the machine.

    Thanks for any help

  14. Bruce Brodowski says:

THANK YOU, IT FREAKIN WORKED AFTER I FIGURED OUT HOW TO ADD A STRING VALUE. IT TOOK A WHILE TO FIND OUT THAT IF YOU RIGHT CLICK AND CHOOSE NEW>STRING VALUE, YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE ProfileWritePath. THEN BY DOUBLE CLICKING ON IT, AN EDIT STRING BOX APPEARS WHERE YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\HP\Digital Imaging\Data\Destination. THAT’S IT. IT SCANS FINE.

  15. Vivian says:

I must be making a fundamental error as when I try to change the string I get an error message saying I cannot use backslashes – any help welcome

    • Nikolai says:

make sure you input the string properly… If your product is still under warranty call HP, if not then you can logon to their chat support

      hp.com/support/chat

      • Vivian says:

Thanks for that info – I logged on to Live Chat and it took 7 hours to remedy the problem as after getting the initial bug sorted it threw up several others all related to the all-in-one. However I have saved all the instructions so if it ever rears its ugly head again I should be able to sort.

        • Vivian says:

Unfortunately it all went pear shaped after a week so, another 5 hours with HP Live Chat! They told me eventually that it was a Microsoft problem! wasn’t too sure on that but went throught all MS instructions, still didn’t work. Installed my ancient Laserjet and that worked fine so went back to HP and of course got a different person whos suggested I printed “direct to printer” which has now been workjing for a couple of weeks,(that only took a couple of minutes to remedy) only hope it lasts until Wuindows 7 is available and I can start from scratch – didn’t really want to have to re-install Windows now and then again in 2 months time. Only problem is that I can only print off one docunment at a time, does anyone know if mutiple printing is possible with direct to printer?

Thanks for all assistance given, just a shame none of it worked for me.

  16. karan says:

A huge thank you for the solution to the HP Cue error. I spent over 3 hours with HP Tech Support and did not resolve the issue. I switched to using Paint for scanning. I will now happily use the HP Scan button on my Photosmart printer.

    You deserve a raise!!!!!

Thanks so much for the help. HP’s website is worthless. Reinstalled the driver, updated the printer’s firmware, nothing else worked. You saved me a ton of time. FYI this was for a HP CM1312 multifunction machine.

  25. Chad says:

Awesome. This was very helpful and quite easy by going through it step by step. Thank you very much.

  26. Vivian says:

At last all seems well with my original problems of HP Cue Scanning. I went over to Windows 7 on 21/10 and had to download new drivers and all seems well (touch wood!). The only thing is that HP haven’t yet produced a patch so that duplex printing can be done, only double sided manually. They promise it is on its way by the end of November – got to hurry!!

  27. Caroline says:

I also have the CUE scanning problem. Have done all of the above but now my printer keeps telling me the USB is not connected butit is.

  28. Jim says:

  44. Brooks says:

    Try this.
Create a new user account with full admin rights. Uninstall the hp printer from your original admin accout. Restart your pc and long onto the new admin account. Install the hp printer in your new account – it should install without error. Log off and log on to your original account. The issue should be resolved. You can then remove the new admin account you created. Good luck, it worked for me.
