How to Install the Latest HP All in One Software

What version of Hp’s all in one full feature software are you using? The latest software for HP “all in one” is the version 12, unfortunately it is only available for selected products. If you are satisfied with your current version or if your current version is working perfectly, I highly recommend not to update because you risk your HP software to not work at all. This tutorial is for troubleshooting purposes only. Here’s the scenario, what if you are having problems with older version of the software, and installing it over and over again does not fix the problem, then you really have nothing to lose if you try installing the latest version HP’s software, right? In my personal opinion, it would be reasonable to think that installing the latest software can fix most problems. After all, it is the latest software isn’t it?

Update: June 10, 2009: The latest Version from HP is version 13. It has just been released today. I highly recommend this for Windows 7 and Vista 64 bit operating systems. For everything else you can use the version 12.

Here are the steps:

  1. Install the basic driver of your HP “all in one” product – To do this, you must completely remove all existing HP softwares that may be associated with your product. Note that some HP softwares are not related with your product and its removal may cause instability in your system or worse a would cause your system to completely fail. I recommend you to read the article: How to Uninstall your HP software properly. You must also install in advanced mode; Install your product’s software using the installation disc. During installation, you will be prompted how you want to install. Easy mode or Advanced mode? you need to choose advanced mode. In advance mode, you will then have the option to choose which software to install. You will have the list of available softwares to install, make sure you uncheck all except the one at the very top, you only need to install the basic driver and it should be the one one at the very top of the list of softwares. Follow the one screen instructions until installation is finished.
  2. Download and Install the latest HP “all in one” software – As I have mentioned a while ago,the software is only available for certain products. That is why this time we are going to download it from HP.com using the HP Photosmart C6380 Version 12 software (for 32bit operating systems) or HP Photosmart C4795 Version 13 software (for 64bit operating systems). Make sure you select your operating system correctly. Install the downloaded software and when prompted to choose whether to use USB cable or Network connection you must choose USB cable. After choosing USB connection, it shout then ask you to connect the usb cable. Do not connect any usb cable, instead click on the box that say connect usb cable later. This will only install the software part and will exclude the driver for the Photosmart C6380.

hp-version-12Right after installation finish, it should then start to configure your product and complete the installation. Give it time until if completes the installation. Please let me know how it all goes. Your comments are important too, to construct a full proof solution. Thank you!

I posted this problem at other sites, but your article raised a question.

(I am at my wits end. I recently acquired a second hand Dell Dimension 4600 in good condition. At the same time I acquired an HP Photosmart 7960. My OS is Windows XP. The problem: I can’t install the printer. The printer works fine, it just doesn’t seem to want to work on the PC. I went to the HP chat. We tried everything, twice. They suggested the problem wasn’t the printer but the PC. The Photosmart is listed as compatible with Win XP. When I try to use the Add Wizard and print a test page, page fails to print. When I try to download installation software from the HP website, it makes it to step 3 before I run into this roadblock: “Invalid command line argument. Consult the Windows Installer SDK for detailed command line help.” I’ve exhausted the HP option. I was on HP chat for two days trying to fix this, so you can see how desperate I am. I have two good pieces of equipment that just won’t talk to each other. I don’t want to send a perfectly good printer to the junkyard. Something, somewhere is keeping these two apart. Help!)

Question: Could HP programs installed on the PC be interfering with the printer installation?

Hi Antonio, Try ths other method:

      – insert USB Cable.
      – Wait for the “Plug and Play” service to do its thing until it asks you to insert the installation disk.
      – insert the Disk and press OK.
      – follow the On-Screen instructions.

      - If you still encounter problems, let me know.

I forgot to mention that the printer had no installation disc. I was trying to install from the HP website. Much of my attention has been focused on the “invalid command line argument” question but there might be other problems. The PC is second hand too, and there is a lot of stuff on it that I’m still going over. I found quite a few HP programs and, after reading your article, I started to wonder if that’s where the trouble might lie.
