How to Change the Default Directory for “Music” in Windows 7

Windows 7 has a built in directory for all your music files called “Music“. Ideally this is the folder where you organize all your music so that all your music player softwares can automatically find your music files for you. This is a good thing, however the default location of the “Musicfolder is actually located in the same drive/partition as your system files, which in that case imposes a high risk of data loss whenever you encounter system crashes, which is very common. A quick protection to this vulnerability is to save all your music files on a different drive or partition so that if there’s need for you to reformat your entire entire system drive, your music files will remain intact as it located on a different partition.

Changing the Default Location of Windows 7 “Music” Directory

First, go to the start menu and right click on the “Music” shortcut and select “Properties“.

On the next Window, click on “Include a folder” and add the new location for your music files. After including the new directory , right click on it and click “Set as default save location“. Click “Apply” and “Ok“.
